Prof. Shahir is a distinguished academic and industry leader in research, innovation, decarbonisation, and offshore engineering. He currently serves as the Vice Provost (Research and Knowledge Exchange) at The University of Nottingham Malaysia, where he oversees strategic research development, industry partnerships initiatives-including key programmes in Decarbonisation.

He previously served as the Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Research, Innovation and Commercialisation at Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP).

Prof. Shahir has also been recognised internationally for his expertise. He is appointed by the People’s Republic of China as a Foreign High-Talent Expert in Offshore Engineering, reflecting his significant contributions to the field and his global impact on engineering research and innovation.
